THE IDEA BEHIND #GERNEPERDU
An invitationthat connects.
Using #gerneperDu in an email signature offers a first-name basis. An open question becomes an easy way to start talking.

Informal or formal.Both are welcome.
Hello Alex, first names are fine!
Of course. Lovely to meet you.
I would prefer a formal address.
Certainly. Thank you for letting us know.
Your preferred form of address needs no explanation.
Connection in conversation.Clarity in collaboration.
Start personally
First names can reduce distance and make open conversation easier.
Respect boundaries
The invitation is personal. First-name terms with one person do not automatically apply to everyone.
Keep commitments
Listening, clear agreements and reliable action matter, whatever the form of address.
From the first helloto working well together.
A few answers for your next contact with our team.
How do I accept the invitation?
If someone offers #gerneperDu, you can use their first name and an informal form of address straight away.
What if I prefer the formal “Sie”?
Then we will use “Sie”. A short note saying you prefer formal address is enough. We respect that, and it has no effect on the quality of our work together.
Does “du” automatically apply to everyone?
The invitation is personal. Using “du” with one contact does not automatically extend it to everyone else. With new contacts, we agree on the form of address together.
Is informal address compatible with professionalism?
Yes. A personal tone and professional work go together. Informal address still means discussing problems openly, respecting boundaries and keeping agreements.
